When you come to Yamaguchi City, this is the first place to go!
A sightseeing and circulation hub facility in Yuda Onsen. It provides information on local souvenirs, dining spots, and walking routes around Yuda Onsen. Inside, there are three footbaths and a café where you can enjoy local sake from Yamaguchi and sweets made with ingredients produced in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Former Yamaguchi Domain Government Office Gate
In December 1863 (Bunkyū 3) at the end of the Edo period, Mōri Takachika planned to relocate the domain office to the foot of Ichirozan, the current site of the prefectural government office. The relocation was completed in 1870 (Meiji 3). This gate served as the main gate of the domain office and is a yakuimon-style gate with side gates, featuring a gabled roof, a front entrance, and traditional tiled roofing. It is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Yamaguchi Xavier Memorial Church
Built in 1952 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Xavier's visit to Yamaguchi, the original memorial church was destroyed by fire on September 5, 1991 (Heisei 3). A new, long-awaited white church was completed on April 29, 1998 (Heisei 10). The new church features a striking design with two 53-meter-high towers (including the cross and bells) and a triangular pyramid roof covering the entire building. Inside the chapel, numerous stained glass windows decorate the space, and a pipe organ is also installed.

Kameyama Park
In 1900 (Meiji 33), the summit of Mt. Kameyama was converted into a park, and six statues including that of Mōri Takachika were erected. The statues were donated for metal collection during World War II. The current statue of Takachika was rebuilt after the war.
The park was renovated in 2018 (Heisei 30), and now offers a panoramic view of the cityscape filled with the atmosphere of Ōuchi culture.

Ganso Barisoba Honpo Shunraiken Nakaichi Branch
A restaurant where you can enjoy "Barisoba," a local B-grade gourmet dish of Yamaguchi City.
This dish consists of thick Chinese noodles that are deep-fried and topped with a thick, chicken-based soup filled with vegetables. The name "Barisoba" comes from the crispy ("bari-bari") texture of the noodles. Several restaurants in Yamaguchi City serve Barisoba, and it is loved as a local specialty.

Kozan Park / National Treasure Rurikoji Five-Story Pagoda
Within Kozan Park, where the National Treasure Rurikoji Five-Story Pagoda stands, there are various historical sites from the Muromachi period. The pagoda is known for its elegant, slender form and the graceful curve of its cypress bark roof, and is counted among the three most beautiful pagodas in Japan. Enjoy its changing expressions throughout the seasons—cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, colorful foliage in autumn, and snowy scenery in winter. Why not take a leisurely stroll while feeling the refined atmosphere of the flourishing Ōuchi culture?

Joeiji Sesshu Garden
It is said that Masahiro Ōuchi, the 29th head of the Ōuchi clan, commissioned Sesshū to design this garden during the Muromachi period. Surrounded by forests on the east, west, and north sides, the garden features a waterfall to the north, a central pond, and decorative stones arranged throughout. Known as a real-life depiction of Sesshū's landscape paintings, it has been designated a National Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty.

Yamaguchi City Saikotei (Kimono Experience)
The building is a relocated and restored version of the renowned Gion Saikōtei, a traditional restaurant that was beloved from its founding in 1877 (Meiji 10) until 1996 (Heisei 8). It displays 29 framed calligraphies by notable figures such as Kaoru Inoue and Eisaku Satō, along with related artifacts.
You can enjoy a variety of experiences such as wearing a kimono, trying on samurai armor, or dressing as a Bakumatsu-era samurai. (Advance reservation required)

Yasaka Shrine
Founded in 1369 (Ōan 2), this shrine was established by enshrining a spirit from Kyoto’s Yasaka Shrine. It worships the deities Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Kushinada-hime as a married couple and is known as a shrine of matchmaking and love.

Ryufukuji Temple
Originally founded in 1206 (Kenei 1), this temple was first a Rinzai sect temple named Hōju-zan Zuiun-ji. In 1454 (Kyōtoku 3), it was renamed Zuiun-zan Ryufuku-ji under the Sōtō sect. In April 1557 (Kōji 3), after the fall of Yoshinaga Ōuchi at the hands of the Mōri clan, Takamoto Mōri, who succeeded them, rebuilt the temple on the former site of the Ōuchi residence as a family temple for Yoshitaka Ōuchi. The current main hall was reconstructed in 1883, after the original burned down in 1881, using the Shaka-dō Hall relocated from Hyōjō Kōryū-ji Temple. In autumn, the vibrant colors of the maple leaves decorate the grounds beautifully. Recognized as a prime example of Muromachi-period temple architecture, it is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

Jippōtei Ishinkan (Jippotei Museum of the Meiji Restoration)
The Jippōtei Ishinkan is a museum that explores the history of Yamaguchi, known as the "Source of the Meiji Restoration," which opened the door to Japan’s modernization. The city of Yamaguchi acquired and restored the historic Jippōtei residence—once owned by the prosperous Bandai family, who ran a soy sauce business in the area—along with the surrounding land and historically valuable materials passed down through generations.

Ichinosaka River
During the Muromachi period, the city of Yamaguchi was modeled after Kyoto, with the Ichinosaka River representing the Kamo River. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom along both banks, and at night the trees are illuminated for nighttime viewing. In early summer, visitors can witness the magical dance of Genji fireflies, a nationally designated Natural Monument.
There are also cafes and restaurants along the river, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing stroll.

Yamaguchi Furusato Heritage Center (Ouchi Lacquer Chopstick-Making Experience)
The center consists of the Manabi-kan, a preserved and restored sake brewery built in the Meiji era; the Takumi-kan, a newly constructed facility; and the Miyabi-kan, a reconstruction of a large Meiji-era traditional house.
You can enjoy making your own chopsticks using "Ouchi-nuri," a traditional lacquerware craft unique to Yamaguchi City. (Advance reservation required)
