Hiroshima

Hiroshima Prefecture has a history of being damaged by an atomic bomb in 1945 and is also widely known internationally. The World Cultural Heritage Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park are symbolic places that now convey the misery of war and the importance of peace. In addition, the Itsukushima Shrine is also listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site, featuring a shrine that incorporates the traditional Japanese architectural style of sleeping temple building and a vermilion great torii floating on the blue sea. Onomichi is known as the "Saka no Michi" because of its many hills, and is characterized by a tawny townscape that also served as a stage for the film "The Girl Who Takes Time" and others. In food culture, okonomiyaki and oysters are familiar as specialties.
