Once a castle town, the area still retains its beautiful historic streetscapes and deep-rooted history. From the iconic Taikodani Inari Shrine with its striking rows of vermilion torii gates, to the Mori Ōgai Memorial Museum, and shrines dedicated to cultural figures like Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, a renowned poet of the Manyōshū, this region is rich in literature and the arts. SPOT - 01

Taikodani Inari Shrine

From the town of Tsuwano, if you look toward Shiroyama (Castle Hill), you'll see a path lined with brilliant vermilion torii gates stretching up the mountain. At the top of this 300-meter path, through a tunnel of approximately 1,000 torii gates, stands the majestic Taikodani Inari Shrine.
It is the beginning of Yasunaga 2 (1773) that the Tsuwano Shichidai feudal lord Kamei Norisada enshrined in Taiyō, Shiroyama, from Kyoto Fushimi Inari, in the hope of the protection of the castle and the peace of the people of the people.
It is counted among the Five Great Inari in Japan along with Takekoma Inari in Tohoku, Kasama Inari in Kanto, Fushimi Inari in Kinki, and Yutoku Inari in Kyushu.

SPOT - 02

Tonomachi Street

Tsuwano, a quiet mountain town in the shade of the mountains, retains a city of history worthy of the name of "Small Kyoto". Among them, Tonomachi Street, located in the center of the town, attracts many tourists as the oldest remaining area.
This street, where many historical sites such as the Catholic Church, the site of the clan school yōrokan, the site of the county office, and the Tsuwano clan's old otago family, is concentrated, and there are also local restaurants that entertain tourists, coffee shops and souvenir shops popular with young couples, it is also the main street of Tsuwano. It also leads to the approach to the Yasaka Shrine and the Tanadani Inari Shrine, and its proximity to the local hall is also attractive.
It is said that the digging along the street was dug as an irrigation canal by Sakazaki Dewa Mamoru when he created the castle town, and 300 to 500 colorful carp are swimming. Especially, the season when the irises bloom against the background of the white wall is really elegant.

SPOT - 03

Anno Mitsuma Museum of Art

A world-class picture book writer who has won the "International Andersen Prize", which is said to be the Nobel Prize for picture books, and is a museum of Mr. Anno from Tsuwano-cho, who has been active as a painter. About 200 items are on permanent display, and various planned exhibitions are also planned.
The first floor is divided into an exhibition zone, a learning zone, and an administrative zone, and includes a permanent exhibition room and a special planning exhibition room, a library reading room, a planetarium for 50 people, an old classroom, a tea room, a storage room, and a office room.
On the second floor, the Japanese-style atelier in Koganei, Tokyo, is reproduced as it is, as well as a storage room and a meeting room.

SPOT - 04

Mori Ogai Memorial Hall

The memorial hall, which was constructed adjacent to the former residence of Mori Ogai, is open to the public with items and valuable material from Yukari Ogai. The memorial hall of Ogai is opened by German hands in the city of Berlin, Germany as an ancillary facility of the university, but this memorial hall of Tsuwano is the only one in the world to have been established as an independent memorial hall.
The exhibition room is divided into two, and the first exhibition room introduces the life of Ogai, who lived two lives, a military doctor and a literary scholar, from the age of 10 to the end of his life at the age of 60, with images, writings, artifacts, and manuscripts. In the second exhibition room, based on the autobiographical description of "Jitsuno materials" written by Ogai, the structure is made to look back on the Tsuwano period when he spent a multi-sensitive period.
In addition, around the anniversary of the death of Ogai (July 9) and the birthday of his birth (January 19), memorial lectures and forums are also actively held as a memorial house business.

SPOT - 05

Shimane Arts Center Grand Toit

Shimane Prefectural Arts and Cultural Center Grantois is a complex of the "Shimane Prefectural Ishimi Museum" and the "Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Theater".
Museums, large and small halls, multi-purpose galleries, restaurants, museum shops, etc. are located around the large courtyard square in the center of the building.
As an arts and cultural hub in the Ishimi area, it provides opportunities for appreciation of diverse and quality arts and culture while fields such as fine arts, music and theater are coordinated and inducing with each other.

Fufu Temple

The single-yō-built main temple, which conveys the techniques of the Kamakura period at the ancient temple of the Tenkō sect, is an important cultural property of the country; there are numerous temple treasures, such as the Futagawa White Road Map (Shigebun).
The garden is reportedly made by the painting monk Sesshu in the style of a temple of the Ikeizumi excursion style, and is in good harmony with the main temple of the Kamakura period; it is designated as a national historic site and a famous victory.

Lonsee Gorge

West Chugoku Mountains National Monument Famous as one of the most scenic spots, the Laimi Gorge boasts the prefecture's largest natural beauty, originating from the West Chugoku Mountains, the highest peak of the West Chugoku Mountains, and the nature of the deep valley.
The Omotensee Gorge has a succession of 20 or more oddities, such as the Fish Fei, the Long Abi, and the Small Shaya Abi, between its total length of 4km, especially the folding screen where the abyss flexes against the precipice is a masterpiece.
Lai Lai-mai Gorge is a Ⅴ-shaped gorge of the Hiromichi River, a succession of waterfalls and abysses such as Gotan Falls, Hirata Abi, etc. A magnificent cliff-edge rises near Suzugatake, where the observation deck is located. A nature exploration route has been maintained along the mountain stream, and a bungalow, campsite, barbecue house, etc. have been created on the Hoyagahara.
Okulaninkyo is located in the Sanno River basin, and besides waterfalls such as Sanno Falls and Armor Falls, which are over 50m, there is a native ground of rhododendron.
The neatness stream also enjoys mountain stream fishing for gogi, yamame, and others, while the mountain valley is also a treasure trove of wild plants.

SPOT - 08

Takatsu Kakimoto Shrine

It is a shrine dedicated to the Kakimoto Jinjin Maro, known as the Manba Poet, and has been described as the Shinkame Year (724-729). In this area, he worships and enshrines as an industrial deity, as Kunitō Jibei writes in his "Kanetoshiji-ho-no-ho-no-ho", "I tell you that the people of this region make paper...".
When you climb the stone steps, you will find the main main temple of the deformed Kasuga-style, the treasure hall, which contains the waka-ka, which is the hand of the royal king, the royal lord; adjacent to our company, there is the Manba Park, which has facilities such as the Manba Botanical Garden, which is named after the human maro.
In addition, on September 1 of each year, the annual festival "Hassaku Matsuri" is held, and the Yabusame Shrine is held in ancient times. The main shrine is a cultural property designated by the prefecture in June 1982.
